Programming modern smartphone apps is a challenging task: An app for the entire smartphone market has to work on completely different operating systems (iOS, Android, Symbian, etc.), each working in many different versions. To add to this complexity, not only do apps have to work with the operating system (OS), but also the smartphone itself. The market for smartphones is deeply divided between many producers each operating on different smartphones. New models are regularly released and OS versions frequently updated. This development is a problem for smartphone application providers who want to ensure that apps operate smoothly. Almost no programmer of smartphone apps is able to test his released product thoroughly. So far, this was not a big problem – most smartphone apps were either used for casual gaming or simple information. Lately, this has changed: More and more companies are using smartphones as an essential part of their communication strategy. This leads to a high increase in the number of “serious” apps (or office apps) being released. Requirements for business software different from requirements for private applications.
